Kai-Ken: About The Breed
Kona, Male Kai-Ken Kai-Ken are an extremely loyal breed usually bonding strongly with one specific person. This medium-sized breed is moderately active and needs plenty of exercise. Some lines of the Kai-Ken in North America show tendencies towards dog aggression; however, traditionally the breed is very pack-oriented and social with other dogs. The Kai-Ken is said to be the only native Japanese dog breed (aka Nihon-Ken) that is not predisposed to dog aggression. They are very primitive in nature and appearance, and are a bit more vocal and hard-headed than the Nihon-Ken breeds. They have a strong prey drive - as do most of the Nihon-Ken - and were bred for hunting boar and deer. Kai-Ken are great with people and animals provided they receive the proper socialization.
